NANCY SIVER (Doubleday)
November 18, 1931 – April 24, 2012
It is with great sadness, we announce the passing of our dear mother Nancy Siver at Hospice House in Vernon. Her diagnosis with pancreatic cancer this February was followed by one month of acute care at Vernon Jubilee Hospital and another month of palliative care at North Okanagan Hospice. Nancy was born in Bottesford, Leicestershire, England in 1931. The Doubleday family immigrated to the west coast of Canada in August 1948, Mom was 16 years old. In a July 1951 double wedding, Nancy Doubleday married George Siver, and her sister Marion married Roy Siver (George’s only sibling). After living briefly in Victoria and Penticton, Nancy & George settled in Vernon and raised their four children. Throughout her life Mom was an inspiration and generous guide in the art of living and loving. We had the privilege of helping provide loving support and care during the last two months and were at her bedside when she passed. Her living legacy includes her four children Bryan Siver; Dale Siver (Tina), their son Scott Siver (Melissa) her only grandchild; Beverley Siver; Lorrie Siver (Ross); her brother Colin Doubleday (Freda); her sister Kath Achtemichuk (Ted); sister-in-law Gloria Doubleday (Derek); and our father George Siver. As well as numerous cousins, nieces/nephews, great and great, great-nieces/nephews. Mom knew the value of building a strong community and was an active participant here in Vernon. She was a Founding Member of the Powerhouse Theatre, and was greatly involved in rebuilding Trinity United Church after the 1985 fire destroyed the original church. Among her many volunteer roles, most recently, she enjoyed teaching youth to knit at local schools.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Trinity United Church (3300 Alexis Park Drive, Vernon) on Sunday, May 6th, 2012 at 2pm, with a reception following, hosted by Nancy’s own Jubilee Unit. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.MyAlternatives.ca.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Nancy may be made to: Tom McMurtry & Peter Baerg Cancer Clinic (2101-32nd Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 5L2). Arrangements entrusted to
