COPEMAN

The family regretfully announces the passing of Nelson Adrian Copeman in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital on Sunday, September 24th, 2006 at the age of 77 years. He was born in Myitnge a small village outside of Mandalay Burma on February 9th, 1929. Nelson attended boarding school in Kalaw in the Shan State of Burma until he evacuated with his mother and brother in 1942 during the Japanese occupation. He went to boarding school in Murree in the Northern Punjab of India from 1942 – 1947 and enlisted with the Punjab Rifles Auxiliary Force from 1944-1946. In 1947, Nelson returned to Rangoon, Burma to start his apprenticeship in the dock yards as an engineer. Because of political uprising he left Burma and sailed to England in 1949 with his brother Peter. In England, Nelson continued his apprenticeship with the Roots Group and C.A.V. London. While in England, Nelson’s parents joined him from Burma. During this time Nelson met and married his wife Anna in 1955. They had two children. The family immigrated to Canada in 1961 and lived in Montreal where Nelson continued his career with Joseph Lucas. Nelson’s wish to live in B.C. brought the family to Prince George in 1963. They later lived in Kamloops, Nanaimo and eventually retired in Vernon. Nelson loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, spending time at the rifle range and was a member of the Vernon Fish & Game Club. His other interests were Tai Chi, painting, traveling, gardening and meeting new people. In 2001 Nelson returned to Burma on an nostalgic trip with Anna, Peter and Theresa. Nelson leaves behind his loving wife Anna of 51 years, his son Paul of Williams Lake, B.C., one daughter Christine of Vernon, two grandchildren, Chelsea and Reid Schroth of Vernon, one brother Peter (Theresa) of Langley, B.C., and numerous nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law in England, South Africa, the US, Australia and Canada. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, September 30th, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. from the All Saints Anglican Church with The Reverend Russ Ferrie officiating. Cremation. A reception will follow in the All Saints Anglican Church Hall. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the PLEASANT VALLEY FUNERAL HOME
