Norda Jean Behrick (nee Thorlakson)
Passed away October 15, 2011 at the age of 82.
Norda Jean was predeceased by her youngest son Ken, her sister Kenna and her second husband of 38 years, David.
Survived by her daughter Rosemary Manton (Bob) and her son Michael Dunn (Marlene). Her grandchildren Jeannie (Alan) Litster, Rob (Masako) and Leigh (Sara) Manton. Michael (Jennifer) and Matthew Dunn. Ken Dunn and Skylene (Ryan) Pendleton. Great grandchildren; Payton, Victoria and Alex Litster; Ana, Zach and Lucia Manton; Kaleb and Ryen Manton; Kimberly and Hailey Dunn; Alex, Shelby and Miriam Pendleton.
Norda Jean grew up in the Commonage area of Vernon on what is now the site of the Predator Ridge golf course. During WWII her family moved to Oyama and she completed her schooling in Rutland and Kelowna. Norda Jean was very active in the church over the years and took a leadership role in various church camps for children. For a number of years she was the driving force behind the Vernon Hockey Cheer squad which evolved into the Vernettes girls drill team. She was also a girl guide leader in her younger days.
A celebration of Norda Jean’s life will be held at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3412 – 15 Avenue, Vernon, on Saturday, November 5 at 11:00 a.m.
A special thank you goes out to the caring staff at Creekside Landing in Vernon where she received special care. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
