On February 20th 2022, our mother Norill Chireen Storey (nee Wills) passed away at the age of 91.
Mom was predeceased by her parents Cecil and Lloyda Wills and her husband Doug Storey.
She is survived by her sons Mike (Suzette) and Patrick (Astelle), grandchildren Clayton, Dane, Kyle, Brittany and great grandchildren Daxson, Parker, Malia, Raiella, Amaralis, Coltin, Everett and Griffin.
Mom's family has deep roots in Lumby. Her grandfather was Tom Norris who came to the valley in 1892. Her mother Lloyda Norris was born in Lumby and later became the first teacher in Cherryville and eventually came to Lumby to ply her trade as a teacher. Her Dad, Cecil Wills came to Lumby many years ago, working for Okanagan Telephone as a lineman and then opening Cec's Service Station on the corner of Shuswap Avenue and Miller Street.
Mom was born and raised in the Vernon and Lumby area, eventually going to Victoria after high school to complete her nursing diploma at Saint Joseph's Hospital. She met our Dad, Douglas Storey, a sailor in the Canadian Navy, while she was there. They married in St. Luke's Anglican Church in Lumby in 1952.
Mom followed Dad's career moves across Canada in the Canadian Armed Forces until Dad retired and the family moved back to Lumby in 1967.
Dad owned and operated the Lumby Farmer's Supply business and then went into business building lawn furniture. Dad died in 1996 and Mom continued to live in their home on Whitevale Road until her move to Saddle Mountain apartments in 2015.
She moved to the Monashee Mews in June of last year and enjoyed the excellent care provided by the staff there until her passing.
Our mom was an intelligent and artistic woman with a patient and kind nature. She seldom complained and always looked for positive ways to support the happiness and success of her sons and larger family. She was a patient wife, a loving mother, a good and loyal friend and a contributing member of the community. She will be sorely missed by all.
A family tea will be arranged to celebrate her life in the spring. Date, time and location will be shared later. In lieu of flowers you can make a donation to the Stroke Club in Vernon.
Arrangements in care of Vernon Funeral Home, 250-542-0155.
