Normal Alice Ross

(nee: Kinnard)

Norma Ross passed away on Saturday, May 9th, 2009 at North Okanagan Hospice House in Vernon.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory, her loving husband, Jack, two sisters, Helen McGie and Virginia Markle, an extended, widely dispersed family, and many friends.

Norma was born on February 8th, 1919 in Vernon. She was the oldest of five daughters of Kenneth and Alice Kinnard. After graduating from high school, she left for Vancouver to train and pursue a career as an x-ray technician at Vancouver General Hospital, where she became their chief technician.

Norma and Jack were married on Boxing Day in 1942. Jack was a member of the RCAF. When he returned from overseas, they lived in Vancouver, Burnaby and Langley before moving to Coldstream in 1991 and to Vernon in 2005. Many of Norma’s fondest memories were from their time living in rural Langley, where she and Jack ran a farm raising purebred cattle.

Norma expressed her artistic side through playing the piano, oil painting and sewing. She made many of her own clothes and sewed gifts and clothes for family members.

Norma was always a caring and loving person who welcomed all into her home with open arms, and often homemade bread!

The family looks back with so much gratitude for having Norma in their lives …“Life’s Work Well Done”

A Service of Remembrance will be held at a later date.
