Norman Chubey

June 4, 1933 - September 6, 2019
Norman was born on June 4th, 1933 in Brandon, Manitoba and passed away peacefully with his family by his side on September 6th, 2019 in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 86 years, after a long hard fought battle with mesothelioma. He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 56 years, Marilyn (Olson) his daughters; Jacquelyn (Ken) Chong and Lisa Dorian, his grandchildren; Leland and Bennett Yardy, his brother; Ralph (Linda) Chubey along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Norm was preceded in death by his parents; Jack & Natalie Chubey, his sister; Marlaena Reinhardt and by his brother; Donald.
Norm hauled gravel in Winnipeg for many years out of the "pits" with his pride and joy, his '69 Kenworth. He became a well-known fixture in the trucking community both for his prized Kenworth and his willingness to help anyone who needed it. The "Tijuana Taxi" was a handle heard by many as Norm was always eager to talk on his CB radio to any trucker within the vicinity, to warn of the latest road conditions or more likely, where the speed traps could be found.
In the winter, he and Marilyn enjoyed the sunshine and warmth of Arizona, spending 20 years wintering in Yuma. They went on to retire to the Okanagan in 2011 to be closer to their daughters and to avoid yet another Manitoba winter. In the summer they spent many weekends with their RV group traveling around Manitoba and later BC and come October, they packed up and convoyed down south.
Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Norm's Life will be held in the Tea Room of Bethel Funeral Chapel in Vernon, B.C. on Friday, October 11th, 2019 at 11 am.
As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Norm to the charity of their choice. Flowers gratefully declined.
