Feb 25, 1932 - Jan 5, 2018
It is with regret that we announce the passing of Norman Douglas Smith on January 5th, 2018 at the age of 85.

Born in Vancouver, Norm moved to Vernon as a young boy in 1941. Once in Vernon, he met and then married his childhood sweetheart Jean in 1953. Together they had 3 sons. They eventually made Vernon their forever home and built a new and used furniture store in 1963 called Vernon Emporium, now known as Furniture Emporium, which they ran as a family business.

Besides the family, Norm's love was his faith and his church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, working on his farm and flying his Piper Cub.

Norm is survived by his loving wife Jean, to whom he was married for 64 years, his sons John (Diane), Bill (Lilly), Tom (Mandy), grandchildren Quintina (Travis), Levi, Jacob, Amy, Michael and Madelyn, 2 great-grandchildren Isabel and Therin.

He is also survived by his siblings Muriel Schmidt (Cecil), Mabel (Len) Friedel, Pat Robertson, Elma Moebes, Fran (Rick) DeAvila, Rhoda Matner and several nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Elma and Allan, sister Ollie Pearson and brother Al Smith.

The family would like to thank the staff at Gateby for the care they have provided to both Norm and Jean over the years.

"Peace I leave with you: my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27.

There will be a Funeral Service held for Norm at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at the Alexis Park Church (3906 35A Street, Vernon, BC).
