Norman James (Norm) Klassen
was born on November 29th, 1919 in Herbert, Saskatchewan and passed away on June 1st, 2014 in the Polson North Extended Care Unit of the Vernon Jubilee Hospital, with his loving daughter at his side. He was 94 years old at the time of his death.
Norm will be lovingly remembered by his son, Richard (Connie) Klassen of Ponoka, Alberta; his daughter, Cheryl Stead of Vernon, B.C.; five grandchildren, Catrena, Lance, Tonya (Dave), Shonaugh (John) and Aaron (Jen); fourteen great-grandchildren; and numerous extended family members. He married the love of his life, Twila Mayleene Dawes in 1941, and she preceded him in death in 1996. Later that same year one granddaughter, Twila Corbeil also died. His parents, Martin and Elizabeth Klassen and his six siblings also predeceased him .
Norm served in the Army & Airforce during World War II from 1939-1942. He loved horses, cross stitch and was a perfectionist at everything he did. Norm was also a man who gave assistance in so many ways to seniors in the community. Whenever he was called on to help others, he was always happy to do so.
Cremation preceded a gathering to remember and give thanks for Norm’s life which will take place at The Schubert Centre on Saturday, July 26th, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Brian Jackson officiatig. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Norm to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4.
We, Norm’s family wish to extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Ross Waldron for the devoted care and attention he showed to our Dad and Grandpa over the years. We would also like to thank all those at Polson North Extended Care Unit who gave such wonderful, personal care to him while he was a resident there.
