We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and coach after an inspirational four and a half year battle with cancer. Norm was born in Vernon, BC on July 27, 1955 and passed away peacefully on Monday, September 26, 2016 at Vernon Hospice, surrounded by his family. Norm is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Laurie, sons Trevor and Tyler, sisters Sandi (Carl) and Vicki (Pat), nephews and nieces Brenda, Drew, Craig, Leah, and Britni, mother-in-law Tillie, brothers-in-law Ken and Phil, his large extended family, and his puppy Charlie. He was predeceased by his sister Sheri, nephew Steven, and sister-in-law Cindy.

Norm began a 40 plus year career with Western Supplies Ltd/Emco Corporation, at the age of 18. Starting in the warehouse, he held various positions ultimately achieving the role of District Manager. Within the Emco family and throughout the industry, he made many lifelong friendships and earned the respect of all.

Outside his career, Norm had a spirited passion for both sports and the outdoors. Beginning at a young age in baseball being coached by his dad, to, in turn, as a dad coaching his boys, his “love of the game” shone through. The hours he spent competing in broomball, hockey, baseball, fast-pitch, slo-pitch, curling, and golf were some of his happiest. His love of nature included many camping trips with his family and the annual fishing trip with the “Weasels”.

Above all else, Norm was a family man. His dedication to, and love of Laurie, Trevor, and Tyler was always closest to his heart and his highest priority.

Norm’s strength, courage, determination, and unwillingness to let his illness break his spirit touched everyone who was by his side through this journey. His infectious smile, memorable laugh, and unconditional love of life will always be remembered by those who knew him best. Norm will be forever missed, and never forgotten.

A celebration of Norm’s life will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016 at 3:00 pm at the Schubert Centre, 3505 - 30th Ave, Vernon, B.C. In lieu of flowers, donations to North Okanagan Hospice Society or Canadian Cancer Society are greatly appreciated.
