Olive LeDuke passed away
on Tuesday, May 10, 2005, at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital in her 85th year. She was predeceased by her beloved husband James Gordon LeDuke in 1993. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Blenkinsop of Dinsmore, Saskatchewan, and her seven children; Michael (Jeanette) of Waterloo, Ontario; Cecil (Denise) of Calgary, Alberta; Daniel (Patricia) of Kamloops, B.C.; Eileen Corbeille (Robert) of Nashua, New Hampshire; Paul (Kathleen) of Calgary, Alberta, Barbara Wourms (Timothy) of Kamloops, B.C.; Anthony (Kelly) of Edmonton, Alberta; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Olive was born and raised in North Vancouver. She later moved to Fort St. James where she lived for several years. In 1946, she married James Gordon LeDuke (Gord). During the course of their life together Gord’s career with Union Carbide moved them from Vancouver to Toronto in 1955 then back to Vancouver in 1957 and finally, in 1959, to Vernon. Olive was an active member of Saint James parish and, for a time, served as president of the local Catholic Women’s League. She was an avid Bridge player and she was an instructor of the game for several years. She was one of the first residents of the expansion of Columbus Court retirement home where she lived independently in company with many friends. The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff and residents of Columbus Court for helping to make Olive’s final few years a time of real happiness and contentment. She was a person of uncomplicated faith, unfailing courage, straightforward wisdom, and a cheerful positive outlook on life. A funeral mass was held at St. James Catholic Church on Saturday, May 14, at 10 a.m. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
