February 13, 1929 - January 29, 2020
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mom, Olive McDonald, at the age of 90. She was predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Gordon, in 2013.
Mom lived a full and happy life - an only child, born in Calgary AB and raised in Vancouver BC, she had many close friends that she considered 'family'. Mom served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an auxiliary leading airwoman from 1953 - 1959. Olive studied as a Cardio Tech and worked for many years at Vancouver General and in various doctors' offices before she and Gordon relocated to Langley BC in the mid 60s. There they raised their two children and Olive worked in the lab at Langley Memorial Hospital. Olive always shared many fond memories of Langley - the lab staff , their crib group, as Lions Club members and later her 'swim group' - all resulting in many lasting friendships. Retirement brought Olive and Gordon to Little White Lake near Salmon Arm. Olive love the scenic Shuswap and enjoyed many years gardening, volunteering and spending time with friends. She was an avid quilter and member of the Shuswap Quilters Guild until her move to Vernon in 2014. She will be lovingly remembered by her son Fraser (Danijela), daughter Janice (Brian) and three granddaughters, Lindsey, Gabrielle and Tamara and close family friends Colin and Carlayne.
Olive was a loving mother, grandmother and friend and will always be remembered for her generous heart and quick sense of humour. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring and compassionate Staff at Gateby Care Facility - Second Floor.
A celebration of Olive's life will be held in the Spring.
