Olwen Oliver of Vernon B.C. passed away at age 89 in Noric House on June 28, 2003. Olwen was born in Kelowna on December 21, 1913 and as a very young child moved to Vernon and has resided here ever since. In 1934 she married Frank Oliver who predeceased her in 1998.
Olwen was very active in the United Church over her entire life and was a long standing member of the Harmony Unit and in her younger years especially enjoyed helping Miss Hurd with the music in the kindergarten class which was held in the church basement. She also was a volunteer at the Vernon Jubilee Hospital and was presented with a 20 year pin shortly before her health started to decline. Winter Carnival benefited from her creative hands when she worked her magic on the throne chairs and backdrops for their many functions. She was very accomplished at sewing, knitting, upholstery, music and playing the piano. These activities gave her much pleasure and enjoyment.
Olwen is survived by her two daughters, Rhondda (Dick) Biggs of Vernon and Gwynneth (Richard) Nelson of Williams Lake, Grandchildren Leah Biggs of Vancouver, Trevor Biggs of Toronto, Kirsten (Wes) Bews and Treena Nelson of Surrey B.C. Great grandchildren Connor and Annika Bews.
Please, no flowers but a donation to Noric House (1400 Mission Road, Vernon B.C. V1T 9C3) would be a nice gesture in Mum’s memory. Olwen requested cremation and no funeral service but a tea will be held at Trinity United Church (3300 Alexis Park Drive) at 2:00 pm on July 10, 2003
