Oswald worked in the Fruit Union Packing House in Oyama for a time. He also worked as a carpenter and helped to build the Civic Arena, the Army Camp and was involved in many other construction projects. He built cabins which he rented out and were know as “Schier’s Cabins.” Along with his wife, Leona, they were involved in Evangelistic work for many years and Oswald spent time in Klemath Falls, Oregon as a Minister. They also helped found the German Church of God in Vernon and attended regularly. He was instrumental in bringing other families from the “Old Country” by sponsoring them which was one of the greatest joys in his life.
