Otto Helmut Ebeling
Otto Helmut Ebeling, a former resident of Vernon, died on Monday, November 17th, 2008 at his home at Oakside Manor, Enderby, B.C., at the age of 79 years, following a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his father, Rudy in 2005 and his mother, Leni in 1985.
Otto was a kind and gentle man who spent many hours listening to music from his collection. He delayed traveling during his retirement, choosing instead to remain near his father who was in a care facility for eleven years. Before Rudy died, Otto, was already disabled by Parkinson’s Disease and moved to Oakside Manor soon after his father’s death.
Otto participated in the activities at Oakside and particularly enjoyed any times that included music or singing. During a Sunday service conducted by the Salvation Army Corps from Salmon Arm, Otto responded to an invitation to believe in Jesus Christ, an action that brought him peace in spite of his physical challenges.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
In respecting Otto’s wishes, he was cremated and there will be no Funeral Service held. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Otto to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4 or to the charity of their choice.
