April 1935 - January 2025

With deep sorrow and profound love, we announce that our beloved Mom & Grammy, Patricia "Pat" Cody, transitioned out of our worldly realm on January 25th. Just shy of 90, Pat was preceded in her journey by our amazing Dad and Grampa, Merv, in 2014, parents Doris and Einar, and siblings Gerry, Carole and Norman. Although we are totally heartbroken, we take comfort in knowing that she is at peace and reunited with the love of her life. Her optimism, love, and joyous humor was truly boundless. Her capacity for gratitude, astounding.

Pat was an unforgettable force of nature, a true character. She had an extraordinary gift for spreading joy and warmth to everyone she encountered. Her spirit endeared her to every person she met, be it for a moment, or a lifetime. She loved fiercely, laughed always, and kicked up her heels wherever she went. She never missed a chance to say, "I love you" and to see her smile was to know she meant it.

Pat had a uniquely challenging and adventurous childhood growing up in downtown Vancouver. As a child, she crossed paths with murderers and mobsters; she was shown kindness by strangers; and her wit saved her life on more than one occasion. Early in her youth, she discovered a passion for singing and dancing. A natural performer, she delighted in sharing her G-rated rendition of the "dirty boogie!"

At 18 years young, Pat met Merv, the love of her life. Together they spent more than 60 years pouring their love and their joy into their children, Dale and Janet and later, their granddaughter, Bailey. They worked hard and played hard, as they would often say. Whether water skiing, hitting the slopes, or simply sharing in each other's laughter, they made life a fun adventure.

A woman of remarkable vitality, Pat defied the limitations of age with her fearless spirit. She was a top Canadian Senior Women's Water Skier for a time, representing British Columbia at the 1969 Canada Summer Games and several national championships. She would often say "Age is just a number"— she was living proof. She continued snow skiing well into her 70s, water skiing into her late 80s, and dancing with boundless energy until not long ago.

Pat was feisty in the very best sense of the word. A fierce advocate for kindness and justice,

Pat embodied her values and was a fearless defender of the underdog. She had a huge heart and unmatched courage. She always saw the best in people and made the effort to let them know, living by the mantra that "people are people." Her appreciation for life, generosity, courage, and unshakable belief in the power of love will be her lasting legacy.

She is remembered with love by her children, Janet and Dale, granddaughter, Bailey, son-in-law, Ray, sister Karen, brother Paul, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends who were fortunate enough to know her. Our memories are bursting with wonderful recollections of her entertaining escapades, lightning fast wit, and endless expressions. Such a gift she was and will always be.

While we mourn her passing, we also celebrate a life well-lived. Mom will always be moored in our hearts. We believe she is up there somewhere dancing with Dad and getting the boat ready for a spin around the lake. It's never goodbye, dearest Mom and Grammy, it's only "tootle pip."

With endless love and deepest gratitude, we cherish your memory and will miss you always.
