Pauline “Kay” Owen
April 26th, 1993 ~ December 13th, 2011
It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Pauline “Kay” Owen in the early hours of December 13th, 2011 at Noric House (Vernon, BC). Kay was born April 26th, 1933 in the backseat of a Model A Ford. She grew up in West Vancouver and later moved to Burns Lake with her family. In 1954, she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC. While she was in nursing training she met her first love, Wilf DeLeenheer and married him in 1954. They raised two daughters together. Wilf DeLeenheer sadly passed away in 1979. Kay was lucky enough to find love again with Ken Owen, whom she married in 1992, and the family was expanded. Kay’s biggest passions were her family and grandchildren, as well as her nursing career. She had a great sense of humor and loved telling stories to all who would listen – with a smile and laughter that lit up the room! She enjoyed friends, camping, music, golfing; loved all animals, nature, and went on many fabulous trips. Kay will be forever loved and missed by her husband Ken Owen and her children Pat DeLeenheer (Jeff Ashworth), Marie (Rendall) Schweb, Jim (Suzy) Owen, and Stacey (Gary) Paterson. Furthermore missed by her grandchildren Del Schweb, Shayne Schweb, Logan (Michelle) Owen, Bobbi Owen, Evan Paterson, and Blake Paterson; great-grandson Chase Owen; brother Roy Taylor (Duffy Edwards); sister Pat Harrison; and numerous other family and friends who will remember her lovingly. A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of BC (#102 3402 27 Ave, Vernon BC V1T 1S1, www.alzheimerbc.org). Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family at www.myalternatives.ca.
