1934 to 2018

We sadly announce the passing of Pearl Dunn, dedicated wife, mother, friend and volunteer.

Pearl leaves behind her husband of more than 57 years, Don; their son, Greg; and daughter in-law, Tobie. She was predeceased by her oldest son, Tim.

Pearl was born on the family farm outside Yellow Creek Saskatchewan, the seventh of ten children and Fred and Alexandria's youngest daughter. Proud of her Ukrainian heritage and roots, Pearl is survived by a brother and many family and friends across Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Pearl moved from the family farm to Winnipeg to study nursing and met Don, the love of her life, at a dance. After Tim's birth, they visited Vernon, BC, to visit family and loved the area so much that they never left.

In Vernon, Pearl began a lifetime of volunteerism and community service, notably with the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary, the Vernon & District Hospice, the Canadian Red Cross and the BC Winter Games. Pearl attended All Saints Anglican Church for many years and was a member of the Order of Royal Purple.

In their later years, Pearl and Don enjoyed travelling, particularly by train, to visit friends and family and toured Europe several times. One of the family's best memories was a close encounter with the polar bears in Churchill, Manitoba.

The last few years have been difficult for Pearl and Don, and we would like to thank everyone involved in Pearl's care, including staff at the Gateby Care Center, Creekside Landing, Interior Health, and the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Many family and friends assisted during this time and we extend a special thanks to all of you for your love and support.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Pearl's memory can be directed to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary Society at www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/vernon-jubilee-hospital-auxiliary-society/ or cheques can be mailed to 2101 32nd St., Vernon, BC, V1T 5L2.
