December 10, 1942 - March 22, 2022
The world lost a beloved soul, mother and a member of one of Vernon's pioneer families, Penelope Joan Sault (nee Peters), on March 22nd, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer, COPD and Parkinson's disease.
Penny was born in Vernon, B.C. on December 10th, 1942 to parents Saxon and Molly (nee Holtam) Peters. Throughout her life, she enjoyed curling, snowmobiling, hiking, fishing, camping, hunting, gardening, travel and genealogy.
Having a great sense of humor, a kind heart and sense of warmth; she always left a smile on the faces of many and made a considerable imprint on the community like her ancestors who originally settled in Vernon. She involved herself in community service and organizations, belonging to the All Saints Anglican Church, Vernon & District Family History Society, Coldstream Women's Institute, the Vernon Snowmobiling Club, the Vernon Museum and others.
Travel was a favorite pastime of Penny's and she visited the following locations: the United Kingdom twice, Hawaii, Eastern Canada, numerous parts of the United States, and in particular Sydney, Australia, where her son Robert attended Medical School. Penny attended business school at Grant McEwan and worked in the corporate world as a successful bookkeeper with CP Rail, ICBC, and later School District 22.
Those left grieving her loss are her only son, Robert (Marisa); her brother, Bill (Margaret) Peters, nieces, nephews and extended family members scattered throughout B.C. and Canada. Penny was preceded in death by her only husband and soul mate of 31 years, Bob in 2015; her sister, Beverley-Ann and her parents.
In respecting Penny's explicit request - she was cremated and no funeral will be held.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be graciously directed to The Vernon Search and Rescue Association, 9850 Aberdeen Road, Coldstream, B.C. V1B 2K9 or the Vernon SPCA, 4800 Haney Road, Vernon, B.C. V1H 1P6.
A Celebration of Penny's Life will be held by invitation only when her cremated remains are laid to rest in the family plot at Coldstream Cemetery. This gathering will take place as the beautiful colored leaves of fall drop to the ground in October, 2022 for this was Penny's favorite season of the year.
The family extends their sincere gratitude to Dr. Ken Perrier, the Surgeons, VJH ER staff, Hospice House and the fantastic nursing and care staff at Polson North Extended Care Unit for the professional, loving care you all gave to Penny in her final years.
