We regret to announce the passing of our father, Peter (Petro) Manolakos Sr.
Peter was known as the proprietor Athens Pizza.
Peter was born in Piereus, Greece. He came to Canada to join his brothers Nikos and Elias. In Edmonton he met his wife, Stavroula (Voula). They had two boys. Pete Jr. (Takis), and Nick (Nikos). They moved on to Vernon to run the restaurant for many years.
Peter and Voula were married 45 years before mom's passing Dec 6. 2010. He missed her dearly. Peter was known for his vibrant smile. He never showed negative emotion.
He was an avid fan of Bruce Lee. And practiced some martial arts in his earlier years. He could be seen at Athens Pizza kicking above his head and hit the hanging lights over the tables. What was remarkable was that he could kick like this, occasionally, even until recently.
He was a regular in his prime at the rec centre. He enjoyed exercising. In the later years he could be seen walking at Polson Park. He didn't show it much, but he loved nature. He loved seeing the "species" at the park. The ducks always brought a smile to his face.
He also enjoyed his coffee and political talks at A&W and McDonald's in the mornings.
He will be missed. He is forever in our hearts.
Peter is survived by his sons Pete Jr., Nick and Jennifer. Granddaughter Matina, her mom Codi and family members in Edmonton. Extended family members Bill and Bev. As well as many friends in Vernon and around BC.
