Philip J. Gehlen

Philip J. Gehlen passed away on Friday, December 2nd, 2005 in Kelowna, B.C. Philip was born in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan on March 8th, 1938, where he grew up in rural Saskatchewan before moving to the west coast. Phil’s career was in Real Estate appraisal, working for BC Assessment Authority both in Surrey and later in Vernon. His other perhaps more important “career” was birding. Innumerable hours were spent finding and identifying most every species of bird in the province and across the continent. Known for his quick wit and kindhearted nature, Phil was loved and appreciated by all who knew him. Family was of the utmost importance to Phil, who loved to share his passion for birds and nature with them all. Phil is survived by his loving wife of thirty-nine years Dolly of Vernon, two sons, Bruce of Wetaskiwin, AB, Calvin (Leanne) of North Vancouver, BC, four grandchildren, Kira, Aubrey, Jesse and Jeremy. Phil is further survived by two brothers Nick (Jean), and Leo, three sisters, Catherine Gehlen, Ann (George) Stevenson, and Dolores Ziefflie. Phil was predeceased by his parents Frank and Mary Gehlen, four brothers, Lloyd, Joe, Bud and Jim. A memorial celebration of life will be held on Thursday, December 8th, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the Pleasant Valley Tea Room.
