October 7, 1957 - April 10, 2022
In loving memory ~
Philip John Lambert left this world on Sunday April 10th, 2022 after a tragic fall at his beloved Bean Scene in Vernon, BC. His passing has stirred many stories and emotions in a large number of friends, family and community members. Many were involved in the whirlwind of his generous heart, exciting adventures and personal storms. Born in Vancouver on October 7, 1957 and raised in Caulfeild, Phil moved to Vernon where he created the Bean Scene in 1994. Phil was a natural entrepreneur. He delivered newspapers as a youngster and became a manager at McDonald's and London Drugs before starting his own business.
Phil loved people, dogs, camping, music, outdoor sports and being in nature. His creativity showed in the aesthetic design of the Bean, where he held evenings of music, poetry, and readings for the public of Vernon. Local artists were featured on the Bean Scene gallery walls. Being raised in a musical family meant exposure to many genres of music. Phil learned piano when he was 5 and enjoyed live opera as an adult. A desire to travel took Phil bicycling through Africa and to Europe with longtime friend Phil Howden.
The Bean Scene and Phil are associated with charity projects. Phil had a wish to help people in his community and to support causes dear to his heart, such as the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee. In June 2016, Phil was the winner of the Above and Beyond award for ongoing community and international support of a number of initiatives, including anti-bullying groups through North Okanagan Youth and Family Services.
Philip is predeceased by his beloved Mum Esme, Dad Harold, Auntie Bob, sister and childhood best friend Lisa (Jennifer). He is survived by his sister Wendy (Dave) nephews and niece; Zac (Katie, their children James and Thomas), Kira, Lucas (Breanna, their children Theodore and Violet) and Graden; and relations across Canada and in England. We wish him peace.
