Phylis passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends on Friday, September 24, 2004 after a brief battle with cancer. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her. She loved gardening, adventuring in the outdoors, playing cards, camping with her kids and grandkids, singing, happy hour and telling stories. Her greatest joy was spening time with her family – and she had a big one. Phyllis was born to Wilfrid and Evelina Boulanger on April 18, 1929, in Merritt, B.C. She was one of a family of 13 children. She moved to Surrey with her family in her teens, later attended Normal School to become a teacher, married Gerry and moved to Doe River, B.C. where Phyllis taught for a short time before starting a family. They lived in Quesnel, Dawson Creek, and Salmon Arm before settling in Vernon. She enjoyed the last 35 years of her life in Vernon and spent many years involved in the Catholic Womens League. Phyllis is survived by her husband Germain, sons Denis (Cindy), Rene (Glenda), Marty (Julie), Gerry Jr., and daughter Janine (Henry), eleven grandchildren: Lane, Carla, Loren, Matt (Michele), Jesse (April), David, Charity, Joanna, Cory, Devon, Ryan and her first great grandchild Ethan Brunelle. Phyllis is also survived by her remaining siblings: Evelina, Helene (George), Jeanne, Maurice, Tom (Annie), Mare-Annette (Peter), John’s wife Judy, and numerous nieces and nephews. Phyllis was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Eva and Irene (and her husband Tom, and son Lawrence), her brothers Wilfrid, Leo, Phillip (and his wife Betty), John, Jeannes’s husband Roy, and three grandchildren Michael, Cherise, and Peter. Prayers will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, September 30, 2004 and Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 1, 2004, both at St. James’ Catholic Church, Vernon, B.C. with Fr. Martin Peyton officiating. If friends so desire, donations in Phyllis’ memory may be made to the Vernon Hospice House or the Catholic Womens’ League.
