Ralph Cawthorn

Ralph Cawthorn was born on April 21st, 1933 in Calgary, Alberta and passed away peacefully on September 22nd, 2010 at Hospice House in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 77 years.

Ralph will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Joan, to whom he was married for 55 years; his sister, Cathy (Ron) James of Gull Lake, Alberta; two sons, Bill (June Adams) Cawthorn of Edmonton, Alberta and Ron Cawthorn of Vernon, B.C.; one daughter, Brenda (Jim) Jeffries of Yuma, Arizona; two grandsons, Gordon (Emily Mason) Willems of Calgary, Alberta and Billy Cawthorn of Vernon, B.C.; four granddaughters, Kristen (Ryan) Brown of Langley, B.C., Michelle (Jeff Gaudry) Willems of North Vancouver, B.C., Jacqui (Barry Homis) Cawthorn of Calgary, Alberta and Ashley Cawthorn of Vernon, B.C.; four great-grandchildren, George, Henry, Colin and Emily; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, Catherine & James Cawthorn and two brothers, Jim and Alec.

Ralph and Joan moved their young family from Calgary, Alberta to the Okanagan Valley in 1965, working for Jacuzzi of Canada as a travelling salesman. Ralph was the originating owner/operator of Kal Lake Distributors Ltd. “The Pump House” servicing water systems, pools and pumps. He sold the business in 1976. Following that he worked for a few small businesses and owned and operated a few of his own. Ralph was a volunteer member of the Lavington Fire Department, was Vernon Winter Carnival Sheriff one year, and was involved in many sports activities over the years. During his working years, Ralph and Joan enjoyed traveling to Hawaii with friends and family. After their retirement they spent winters in Yuma for many years where Ralph learned to carve. His love of fishing prompted a yearly family reunion at a local fishing lake. Ralph leaves his family and friends with many wonderful memories.

It was Ralph’s wish to have a small family memorial at the next family reunion. He requested that he be cremated and no funeral service held. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Ralph to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 – 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4 or the Vernon Cancer Clinic at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, 2101 -32nd Street, Vernon, B.C. V1T 5L2.
