1931-2017

Ray Hansen passed away suddenly and peacefully January 4th, 2017 at 85 years of age. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Marion Hansen, in 2011. Ray, an avid artist, photographer and model railroader, relived his life by filling sketch books with drawings from a lifetime of photos taken from many years of family hikes and camping trips.

Born and raised in Golden, BC, where he met Marion in 1962, Ray was recruited by BC Hydro and after a short stay in Needles, BC, was relocated to Vernon in 1968. Ray lived the rest of his life in Vernon where he raised his surviving children: Wendy (Allan) Hesketh, Brad (Cindy) Hansen, and David Hansen of Houston TX. They will deeply miss their mountain man father. Ray retired in 1988 and he and Marion spent many happy years travelling North America in their camper van. They even ventured further with vacations in Hawaii, New Zealand and Nepal. Ray will always be remembered for his sense of humor, patience, wisdom and dedication to his many friends and his loving family. Ray and Marion’s memory will live on from the many artworks hung on family walls and Ray’s railway models and paintings at the O’Keefe Ranch, Okanagan Landing Hall and the Vernon and Golden Museums.

A celebration of Ray and Marion’s lives, in the form of a memorial hike, will be held by family members in the mountains in the summer.
