Raymond was born into a family of eleven children in Lint Law, Sk. in 1922. At three months of age the family moved to Avola, BC, where Ray lived until the age of eighteen years at which time he went to work on the railroad. Returning to Avola two years later he then worked in the logging industry. In 1947 Ray moved to Trail after spending two years in the Army. It was in Trail where he met his future wife Jean. They were married in 1949 and lived on a hobby farm at Fruitvale, BC., where they raised five children. In 1977 Ray and Jean bought a house in Armstrong. Ray joined the family a year later after retiring from Cominco. While in Armstrong he acquired his Industrial First Aid AAA ticket. He then worked for Federated Co-op at a logging camp on Seymour Arm for eleven years. At age 65, Ray retired (again) and moved into Green Valley Estates in Armstrong. Ray spent his later years in care homes including Polson Special and Gateby because he had Alzheimers. About two years ago Ray was moved to Pleasant Valley Manor where he lived until passing away peacefully on February 21, 2009. During his life his family was his focus and he was a proud father, grandfather and great grandfather. His caring nature was experienced by all those near him. His kindness extended to animal friends as well. Ray also found pleasure and relaxation in gardening and fishing. He was at home out of doors and even though stumbling over a tree stump never spilled a huckleberry! Ray will be missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Jean; daughters Lawanda (Stuart) and Theresa (life partner Theresa); sons Rod (Sue), Jim (Gail), Ed (Sue), son-in-law John, grandchildren Tanya (Warren), Jason (Mel), Jennifer (Ryan) Sarah (Kurt), Michel, Jamie (Lee), Joe (Gina); six great grandchildren; sisters Ruth Edwards and Donna Oser and brother Spencer Cederholm. A Memorial Service for Ray will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of BC, 300-878 W. 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2. Arrangements in the care of Personal Alternative Funeral Services, Armstrong. 250 – 546-7237.
