JONES, Raymond Gordon

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Raymond Gordon Jones of Vernon, at the age of 84 years, on September 9, 2014 in Kelowna, British Columbia. Ray was born March 20, 1930 in Jeffrey, Alberta. In 1957 Ray married Olga Bakalech in Dawson Creek. In 1960 they moved to Fort St. John where Ray had his own construction company in the oilfield. In 1972 they moved to Kelowna followed by purchasing a ranch in Oyama. Ray was an avid cutting horse rider since 1965 and raised quarter horses and cattle. He belonged to BC and Canadian Cutting Horse Association. Ray along with Larry and Rosalyn Nelles formed the Interior Cutting Horse Association. He did silverculture work for Canfor for 18 years. He will be forever loved and missed by his wife, Olga, to whom he was married for 57 years; sons Rod of Fort St. John, Jason of Vernon; daughter Shelley of Fort St. John; grandsons Keegan Jones and Cameron Matson. Further cherishing his memory are his brother Oliver of Dawson Creek, sister Margaret of Edmonton and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Jack and Martha; brother John and sisters Dorothy and Daisy. At Ray’s request, there will be no service. Those wishing to do so may make a memorial donation in Ray’s memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation (#4, 1551 Sutherland Avenue, Kelowna, BC V1Y 9M9).
