Raymond McMullen


We regret to announce the death at Vernon Jubilee Hospital on March 5, 2003, of RAYMOND RICHARD McMULLEN, at the age of 81 years. Ray was born and raised in Vernon and was active in the community in many ways. He served with the B.C. Dragoons during World War Two and transferred into the Lord Starthcona Horse Regiment, spending a total of 32 years in the Canadian military. Ray was a prisoner of war for 9 months. He was active for many years as a Cub and Scout leader, and was a Cadet Instructor at the Vernon Army Camp from 1964 until his retirement. Ray was involved with the Vernon Search and Rescue unit for many years and also with the Vernon Fish and Game Club. He was a Life Member of the Vernon Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion, and was a former Sergeant at Arms there. Ray also loved the outdoors, camping and fishing, and most of all his family. He will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years, Grace; children: Jack (Sharon), Bill (Gale), Janet (Bruce), Jennifer (Richard) and Bob (Sheila); 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Ray is also survived by brother Frank (Dawn) and sisters: Jessie Young (Frank Piper) and Hazel (Dave) Carroll; numerous nieces and nephews, and many extended family members. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, March 10, at 1:00 P.M., in the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in Vernon, with Padre Allan Dawe officiating.
