1921 - 2017

The family of Raymond Shepherd sadly announces his passing on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at Hospice House in Vernon. Cherished in Life, Treasured Forever Raymond is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth in their 70th year of marriage, three sons Douglas (Elaine) of Nanton Alberta, Terry (Susan) of Dawson Creek B.C. and Bruce (Assunta) of Vernon. Also, left to remember him are his four grandchildren Janice (Jamie), Jason (Shanna), Mark (Jodi), Kevin (Tacha) and six great grandchildren Kenzie, Alex, Kaiden, Aislinn, Evan and Cara. Raymond was born in South Surrey on December 3, 1921 as the youngest of six to, John Ray and Christiana Shepherd. He was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers. He will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Raymond will be fondly remembered as a kind gentleman who loved gardening, fishing and treasured every moment spent with his family. Raymond worked for many years as a butcher by trade in Surrey as well as being a sales representative for Canada Packers in Vancouver before retiring to Enderby in 1983 and later moving to Vernon in 2006. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the exemplary care given to Raymond by Dr. Fred Dyck, Dr. Ed Hardy, Dr. Troy Schultz, Dr. F. Bachand and the wonderful nursing staff at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. To the wonderful staff and volunteers at the North Okanagan Hospice Society we extend a huge thank you for your amazing care and support shown to Raymond and our family over the past several weeks. In lieu of flowers those wishing may make a donation in Raymond’s name to Vernon Restholm, Vernon Jubilee Hospital or North Okanagan Hospice Society. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 in Armstrong at the Chapel of Alternative Funeral Services at 11:00 am. Reception to follow.
