Rena Eliabeth passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on March 7, 2005 in Kelowna, BC. She is sadly missed by her two daughters, Jean Elliott of Vernon and Brenda (Ted) Allingham of Oyama, and her grandchildren Drew (Ashley), and Courtney (Paul). Predeceased by her husband, Jim, brother Edwin, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Peter and Doreen Elliott. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marion Cooke, her nieces and nephews, Katherine, Gordon, Kay, Nancy and Rob, and extended family. She will also be greatly missed by her best friend, Inez Kenney. She was born May 18, 1921 in Enderby, BC and grew up in Ashton Creek. Rena came to Oyama in the late 1930’s, working in the orchards and the BC Shippers packing house. She met her future husband in Oyama and married Jim in 1947. They established their home on Middlebench Road where they raised their family and she continued to live until her stroke in 2003. Rena worked for many years at the Vernon Fruit Union and Okanagan North Growers Co-Op. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren and her flowers. Rena will always be remembered for her kind and unassuming nature, her quiet but wonderful sense of humor, her generosity to all, and deep love for family and friends. She will also be remembered for her wonderful cooking and needlework skills as well as her love of wild birds. A celebration tea was held on Satuday, March 12, 2005 at 2:00pm in the Oyama Community Hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cottonwoods “E” Unit Garden Fund. The family would like to give a very special and heartfelt thank you to Dr. Penney for his kindness. Arrangements are in care of VERNON FUNERAL HOME. 250-542-0155.
