EGLESE, Reta Catherine
Reta Catherine Eglese (nee Robinson) sadly passed away December 19, 2013, after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s.
She was born Sept 14, 1924, the 2nd of five children, in a log cabin near Talbot, Alberta. She obtained her early education via horseback in a one room school in Ribstone Creek, Alberta. She came from a family of true pioneers – her grandmother having crossed the prairies from Ontario, alone with four children, in covered wagon. Despite her humble beginnings Reta became a Registered Nurse at Calgary’s Holy Cross Hospital where she worked as a maternity nurse delivering hundreds of newborn babies. She and Ted Eglese married in Calgary and had four children. She and Ted spent most of their early married years in Alberta where Reta nursed and Ted was an oilman. They retired shortly after he turned 60 and spent many happy retirement years in Vernon. Reta was an avid Bridge player and traveler.
Reta is survived by two sisters, Marion Fredrickson of Calgary, and Pat Dick of Ponoka; one daughter, Joan “Robin” Pattie (Brian); sons: Michael (Brenda), David (Karan), and Robert (Karen); seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
