1954 – 2013
Born Dec 18 in Ste. Agathe, PQ to Zepherin Conrad and Shirley Anne (Nee Fendick) Lafleur. He was a happy, easy to please baby. At 5 yrs Montreal Children’s Hospital diagnosed him with social and motor problems. When rejected and ridiculed by local schools Mom opened a kindergarten after which he went to a Jewish sponsored school in Montreal while living in Morin Heights, PQ His particular joy growing up were visits to “Butterfly” World & car rides and growing things. He made our home a garden.
He graduated from Mary Mount High School, mowed lawns & helped in gardens.
Family moved to Vancouver Island but soon René started to travel. While he was in Australia Mom joined him there and backpacked with him from South to North and first saw bungy jumping.
He loved Hawaii where he studied the life of Monarchs in depth. This “Nature Boy” was a great photographer and his collection of flora & flanna spectacular.
To all those who helped René, I extend profound thanks – including mate Trevor, cousins David and Bob, nurses and aids in Vancouver Gen. Damon who found him work, Betty – Landlord, Don who hired him to look after his garden.
Goodbyes were said by Son and Mom at 6am on Nov2/13.
René treated our planet like the heavenly world it is, always leaving it a healthier place. I will never stop missing my “Special” son.
