Richard James (Jim) Spice was born on May 18th, 1925 in Hawkhurst, Kent, England and passed away on September 6th, 2010 in Hospice House at the age of 85 years.
Jim will be lovingly remembered for his quick wit and favorite jokes and will be sadly missed by his wife Phoebe, to whom he was married for 47 years; two sons, Derek (Sherri) and Richard (Brenda); and two grandsons, Connor and Braden.
Jim served briefly in the RAF during WWII, then went to work in the oil industry in Bahrain.
He emigrated to Canada in 1952 and worked at Imperial Oil in Edmonton, Alberta, then returned to Bahrain. On returning to Canada in 1960 he went to Fort McMurray to work in the oil sands industry until his retirement in 1987. Jim and Phoebe moved to Vernon in 1989 to enjoy their remaining years together at Parker Cove.
Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Jim’s Life which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Monday, September 13th, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. with Mr. Brian Jackson officiating. A Reception will follow in the Bethel Tea Room. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Jim to the North Okanagan Hospice Society, 3506 – 27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4.
