MIWA, Richard (Dick) Susumu
Miwa, Richard (Dick) Susumu passed away peacefully at Monashee Mews, Lumby, BC on January 10, 2014.
He was born on January 25, 1939 in Prince Rupert, BC. He leaves behind sisters Dale Shuko Johnston, Salmon Arm, BC, Dorothy Yoko O’Brien, Surrey, BC and brother William (Bill) Kan Miwa (Gloria), Vernon, BC
He leaves nieces Dr. Shaunne Gorrie (Gregg), Aldergrove, BC, Alison Nishihara, Vancouver, BC, and Dr. Jill Miwa, Aarhus, Denmark; nephews Mark Nishihara (Sheila Campbell), Vernon, BC, Sean O’Brien (Karen), Coquitlam, BC, Conn O’Brien (Loreto),
Delta, BC; as well as 6 great nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Ikuma Roy Miwa and Atsuko Mary Miwa, and sister June Tamae Nishihara, as well as brothers-in-law Howard Johnston, William O’Brien and James Nishihara.
Dick was employed at Coldstream Ranch steadily for years, retiring in January 2004. He dutifully looked after his aging parents until their move to Noric House.
Subsequently, Dick moved to Coldstream Meadows where he lived happily for several years. He was transferred to Monashee Mews, Lumby, BC in May 2013 where he received more needed care. He died there on January 10, 2014, after suffering a severe stroke.
A Memorial Service at All Saint’s Anglican Church will be held at a later date, and will be announced.
