We regret to announce Al's passing on October 9th at the Vernon Hospice House. 'Hoop' is survived by his wife of 55 years; Sharyn, his children Terri (Iain) of Calgary, Derek (Brenda) of Toronto, Mona of Calgary, Annette (Gord) of Nakusp, Jordan of Vernon and Jason (Kristi) of Kamloops. Also, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Al was born in Calgary where he was a professional musician for some years before receiving a BA (with Distinction) and his teaching degree from University of Calgary and later a MEd from Gonzaga in Washington. He began his teaching career in Calgary before moving his family to Vernon. He taught four years at Fulton and nineteen years at Silver Star Elementary.
Al was active in sports as a player, coach and a director both at school and in the community. He also received the Rienie Holland Service Award. As per his request there will be no service. So loved and greatly missed.
