Robert William Coates passed away on March 22, 2004 at Hospice House surrounded by his family at the age of 58. Bob was survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Irene, two sons, Mark (Dawn) of Ft. McMurray, AB; Blair (Gwen) of Vernon; daughter Sheri (Dwayne) Schweb of Salmon Valley; 10 grandchildren, Crystal, Jennifer, Christopher, Michael, Samantha, Carson, Trevor, Cole, Melissa, and Tasha, 1 brother, George (Myrna) Coates of Morse, Sask.; Mother-in-law, Florence Tremblay of Vernon, 2 Brother-in-laws, Gilbert (Chris) of Calgary, AB and Barry (Michelle) of Windemere; sister-in-law, Angela (Ted) Usher of Coquitlam and many nieces, nephews and friends. Bob was born and raised in Morse, Sask. where he and Irene farmed and he began his apprenticeship as a funeral director. They moved to Vernon in 1980 when they purchased Vernon Funeral Home. After a brief absence from the funeral profession he and Irene started Coates Funeral Service in 2001. Bob was always an active member of the community serving on numerous boards including Hospice House, Noric House, Vernon Woman’s Transition House, O’Keefe Ranch, and the campaign cabinet of the Vernon Woman’s Transition House. He was also a member of the Elks in Morse and in Vernon, the Vernon Rotary Club and the Tri-Lakes Rotary Club. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 26 at Trinity United Church with Reverend Sheila Odney officiating. Cremation to follow.
