Robert Allan Docksteader, loving husband, father, grandfather and a quiet gentle soul, passed away December 30th, 2011.
Left to mourn and grieve his unselfish care of family and friends is wife, Hazel of 64 years; son, Richard and boys, Nathan and Brandon; son, Gerry (wife Karen) and boys, Shon, and Brett (great-grandsons: Baylin, Gavin, and Jaxson); Daniel and James W.; daughter, Sharon (husband Brian, whom Dad considered another son); and the best fur kid, “Pixie”, the cat, who today still sleeps on the
foot of Dad’s bed, waiting his return.
Dad was born in Armstrong on June 10th, 1925, growing up to own and operate a dairy farm until moving to Vernon and giving further opportunities to raising his family.
A World War II veteran, he suffered 65 years; a body dismembered and scarred. He never complained of his daily pain, probably because he was proud to have served his beloved Canada.
Stoic and hardworking, Dad made sure his family was well provided for. After retiring from the Post Office in the late ‘80’s, Dad enjoyed travelling North America to see his children in their various moves.
Dad had a passion for the outdoors. He enjoyed his daily two mile walks to town for coffee with old friends. In his later years, the walks became shorter. Dad had a voracious love of reading as he escaped into novels, often having two to three books on the go at any given time.
When you remember “Bob”, know that each and everyone of you had an importance in his life and memories.
Your kindness, if you would like to honour him, would be much appreciated to North Okanagan Hospice Society of Vernon or to the SPCA. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Life well lived, Dad
You will never be forgotten – you are a part of us all
