Bob Bartley of Desert Cove, Vernon, died peacefully at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, Vernon, on Friday, February 19, 2010, aged 82, after a short illness.
Bob was born in Canora, Saskatchewan on October 17, 1927, and was the only child of Samuel and Lizzie Bartley. Bob became an Industrial Education teacher and taught for Burnaby North High School for 30 years. In 1957 he married Billie (F.W.) Jones in Vancouver, B.C. In 1960, their only child, Gary Bruce Bartley, was born.
Bob was a lifelong volunteer for skiing and was a past president of the Western Division, Canadian Ski Association. He was elected to the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame in 1983 in the Developer category, having been actively involved in the development of junior competitive skiing for over 50 years. Bob and Billie became international Technical Delegates and worked officiating at various sports events provincially, nationally and internationally. He was also a 30 year member at the Quilchena Golf and Country Club and more recently a member of the Spallumcheen Golf Club. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Billie, his son, Gary Bartley, daughter-in-law, Fiona (McKenna) Bartley, grandchildren, Brendan and Shannon.
He will be missed by his many friends and family. A Memorial Service will be held at the Desert Cove Recreation Center in Vernon on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 2:00 P.M.
