1922 – 2008

Hugh Shirley was born in Vancouver on December 11th, 1922 and died on March 3rd, 2008. He was predeceased by two older sisters, Eileen and Norah, and his twin brother Annsley.

He is survived by his wife Kate, his son Mike, his daughter Judy and her husband Greg, sister Beth Edge, brother Ken (Audrey) Shirley and numerous nieces and nephews.

He worked for the BC Power Commission and BC Hydro as a serviceman electrician. He was an avid sailor, canoeist, skier and outdoors enthusiast. He was an instructor for the Power Squadron. He raced his sail boat at the Vernon Yacht Club where he has been a member for over 20 years. He loved taking his boat to the coast where he cruised the islands. Hugh spent the last 15 years as a volunteer skipper for the Okanagan Quality Life Society’s boat, “Heaven Can Wait”.

Hugh was a devoted family man, a wonderful husband and father and will be missed for all time. Anyone who would like to do so, may give a donation in his name to the Okanagan Quality Life Society. OQLS, 3000 Gateby Place, Vernon, V1T 8V8.

The Funeral Service will be held at All Saints’ Anglican Church, Vernon, at 3 pm on March 14th.

Arrangements are in the care of Vernon Dignity Funeral Home.
