October 5, 1941 - January 14, 2020
Robert (Bob) Webb passed away peacefully with his family at his side on Tuesday, January 14th at the Gateby Care Facility.
Born and raised in Penticton, Bob came to Vernon as a young man to work for Kal Tire in their retread shop. In March of 1964, on the recommendations of Tom Foord and Bruce Georgeson, Bob was able to apply for the position of Volunteer Live-In with the Vernon Fire Department. On September 8th, 1969 he was hired by the City of Vernon as a Full-time Professional FireFighter, a position he held until his retirement March 31, 1999. In those early years, the Fire Department was also responsible for the Ambulance Service and Bob proudly remembered the call when he helped deliver a baby.
Bob was active in the community. For several years he held a position on the Executive for Vernon Minor Hockey and was also involved at the Coaching level. For ten years he was a member of the Vernon PeeWee Hockey Tournament Committee. If he wasn't at the arena, he could be found at the Silver Star Ski resort where he was a dedicated volunteer with the Ski Patrol. During the summer months, Bob was involved as an Umpire for both Vernon Minor and Men's Senior baseball, officiating many games for the Enderby Legionnaires. In his spare time, Bob enjoyed fishing and watching the Toronto Blue Jays with his best friend Dan Oxnard. Somewhere he also found the time to build a cabin at Beauleau Lake.
Bob is survived by his wife Cathy of 53 years; sons Derek (Annette) and Gary; and grandchildren Kristina and Cody. Sister Joan (Brian Low), Brother Dale (Jean), as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins in BC, Sask. and England. Bob was pre-deceased by his parents Bob and Bernice (Carter) Webb of Penticton.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ross Waldron for his many years of care and to the Staff at the Gateby who looked after Bob so well for the two years he lived there. Thank You.
