Nielsen, Robert Junior (Bob)

January 7th, 1929 – May 30th, 2014

After a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s, at the age of 85, Bob passed away on May 30th, 2014 in Vernon, with family at his side. Bob was born and grew up in Windsor, Ontario. At the age of seventeen his family moved to Lillooet where, in 1948, he started his railway career with the Pacific Great Eastern Railway. During his career he lived in Lillooet, Prince George and North Vancouver. After 37 years of dedicated service, Bob retired in 1985 as Superintendent of BC Railway. Through those years Bob made many life long friends and was well respected and liked among his colleagues. Soon after he arrived in Lillooet he met and married Margaret, the love of his life. After his retirement, Bob and Margaret moved to Vernon where Bob enjoyed many years of golfing. No matter how he golfed, he always said “there was never a bad day on the golf course”. Bob was a devoted husband and a wonderful, caring father to Linda (Wayne), Alan and Janis (Ken). As a consummate gentlemen and family man, Bob always put family and others first. “Grandpa Bobby” will be greatly missed by his grandchildren, Scott (Nicole), Kevin, Richard (Loralee) & Jennifer (Chad) and Great Grandchildren Koen, Mila, Owen, Blakely & Mikaela. And to his nephew, David, who shared many golf games with his Uncle Bob thank you for that special road trip to Lillooet. Fred, who was a longtime friend and baseball teammate and Bud who always considered Bob “the best” will miss him. To Don his friend at Desert Cove, thanks for being there for dad. A special thank you to the staff at Polson Special who showed compassion and dignified dedication to Bob’s care. A very special thank you to Trina, a true friend. Bob enjoyed the outings and Rick’s baseball games

Dad, we are so grateful and honored to have you as our Dad. You will be missed and forever in our hearts. Our Love; Linda, Alan & Janis
