May 18, 1917 - March 29, 2016

Wes passed away peacefully at Noric House, Vernon, British Columbia.

Wesley was born in Barachois, Gaspe, Quebec; the eldest of eight children. He left school at 12 years of age to help look after his brothers and sisters following his mother’s untimely death at age 33. In his 20’s he worked as a lumberjack until joining the Canadian Army and subsequently saw active service in the Second World War, which included landings at Dieppe and D-Day.

Wes met his future wife Marion in the UK on Cowes esplanade on May 19, 1942 whilst stationed at Parkhurst Forest on the Isle of Wight. They became engaged on January 9, 1944 before getting married on August 8, 1945 at Northwood Church, in Cowes. They returned to Canada in 1946 and started a new life in Montreal, Quebec where they built the family home in Deux Montagne’s. Wes worked at Stelco for 30 years in Montreal before retiring at 63. They resided in Quebec until 1980 before moving to Ontario and finally Vernon in British Columbia.

Wes and Marion enjoyed 71 years of marriage of which 35 were spent in retirement. During this time they travelled extensively around Canada and the USA with their van and trailer. They enjoyed many summer camping trips and cross country skiing at Sovereign Lake.

Wes leaves his wife Marion, three children, Sandra, John and Ross, four grandchildren, Robert, Laura, Erin and Jolene, and one great grandchild, Kai.

Wesley’s family would like to thank all the staff at Noric House for their loving care and attention during his stay.
