November 6, 2020
1941-2020 ~ It is with sadness, yet fond and tender hearts, that we announce the passing of Rodney Abel Gagnon on Friday November 6th, 2020 at a long-term care home, Polson Extended Care in Vernon B.C. at age 79.
Survived by his life partner of over 40 years Jean Redl (nee Oakford). We wish to express our gratitude to the integrated care team at Polson Extended Care who provided excellent care to Rod and support to the family.
Rod leaves behind his children Michael (m. Serena) and Rick (m. Tanya) and step children Kemp (m. Rachel) and Robin (m. Doug). He will be missed by his grandchildren Logan, Alexandra, Nicholas, Jordyn, Eric, Ryan Cody, Tanya, Rielle, Oliver and his great niece Logan Hayley.
He also leaves behind his brother Don (m. Evelyn), sisters Thelma (m. David), and Reba (m. Ron) and their children Michelle, Brad, Christina, Lesli, Denise, Ron, Jan, Bill, and Brent.
Rod was born in 1941 to Abel and Rosie Gagnon and grew up in Kelowna where he grew to love all sports and developed his hard work ethic. He later moved to Quesnel as the meat manager at Super Value and spent more than 10 years playing hockey for the storied Quesnel Kangaroos.
During his tenure on the Roo's he won a Coy Cup in 1965-1966, played against the Finnish National Team and captained the Roo's to a second Coy cup championship in 1967-68. He continued to play hockey as a Quesnel Old Timer and could always be counted on to cater local tournaments for his team.
Rod was generous with his time and he could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked. He had an adventurous independent spirit, loved being outdoors, and could fix anything that needed fixing.
He loved to travel and had many adventures on lakes, rivers, ski hills, ocean fishing and enjoyed touring around on his boat. Rod loved to entertain, barbecue prime cuts of meat, drink good wine, and laugh aloud often.
As per Rod's request there will be no service. Enjoy a good glass of wine and reflect fondly on all this wonderful man brought to you, this world and others. You are invited to leave a personal message of condolence at the family's on-line obituary @ www.MyAlternatives.ca
