May 24, 1931 - November 13, 2018
Roland Gilbert Carriere has found his way into heaven after a lengthy battle. He will be missed dearly by his children; Laura, Alan, Morgan, Terry and Donna. He will also be missed by his grandchildren: Shari, Trevor, Tricia, Abraham, Miles, Crystal, Amanda, and Gracie and ten great grandchildren as well.

Roland was born in Winnipeg Manitoba in the same hospital as his future wife twelve days earlier. He then later met Ann when they were both only sixteen years old, they married in 1949, and have stayed together for the last seventy-one years!

In 1957 the young family moved to Vancouver BC where Roland gained employment with BC Tel and remained there until his retirement. At this point he and Ann embarked on a little bit of globe-trotting before settling again in Vernon. Roland was a regular member of the church and also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Roland lived his life in cities, but his best memories reside in the outdoors. He spent as much of his time fly-fishing as he could. A good day for him began on the lake before sun up and ended by paddling to shore by flashlight! He also had the uncanny knack of being able to dictate the directions to some of the most obscure lakes throughout the province by memory! He spoke with fondness of his memories out with his family. These were especially grand when the fishing was great!

In the future the family may be reminded of Roland by the shadow of a fisherman in the distant mist on the water.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to all of Roland's caregivers at Polson's Fintry facility. Their love, kindness and the devotion to the level of care was a great comfort to both Roland and his family.
