1930 – 2015
With heartfelt sadness we announce the passing on May 1, 2015, at Hospice House, Vernon, BC of Ronald Charles Catt. He was born May 8, 1930 on the family farm in Lumby, the youngest of five children. It was there that he developed his lifelong love of nature, while hiking, hunting and fishing. At age 16 he discovered his passion for planes while employed at the Vernon Airport, obtaining a pilot’s license at 18. Joining the Flying Frenchmen at a young age he continued playing hockey until the age of 81, travelling the world with his Old Timer Hockey Teams. Dad married his beloved, Dorothy in 1950 and together raised six children. He spent many years employed at Bell Pole where his work took him all over BC. Upon retirement Ron and Dorothy spend many happy years camping, fishing, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
Left to mourn Ron’s passing are his wife of 65 years, Dorothy; children, Don (Diane), Connie (Greg) Bennett, Kathy (John), Gord (Betty), Peter (Rhonda), and Neil (Bobbi); 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Joy Farmer and Nickie (Mel) Dunkley as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Respecting Ron’s wishes, there will be a private family gathering. For those wishing to do so a donation may be made in Ron’s memory to a charity of your choice.
