Rose Florence Vander Velden (nee Baylis) (Formerly Daly and Burley) was born on May 9th, 1919 in Sturgeon Creek, Manitoba and passed away quietly on August 30th, 2016 in the Polson North Extended Care Unit of Vernon Jubilee Hospital at the age of 97 years.

Rose will be remembered by her daughters, Gloria Daly of Duncan, B.C. and Norma Michaud of Nanaimo, B.C.; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Brad) Kivell, Janis (Pat) Meyer, Dereck (Cheleen) Hacke, Sue Hacke, Klaig (Leanne) Morton, Lynida (Dave) Arbogast, Jaason (Anna) Morton, Trina Michaud, Lee (Eva) Michaud, Art Burley and Sharon Burley; her great-grandchildren, Meaghan Morton, Campbell Morton, Melissa Morton, Alycia (Brent) Ohashi, Brittany (Ryan) Paulson, Adam (Danielle) Wiffen, Anastasia Meyer, Erik Meyer, Megan Hacke, Sydney Hacke, Sydney Hacke, Sage Hacke, Lucas Hacke and Bruce Hacke; her great-great-grandchildren, Kiyoshi Ohashi, Benjiro Ohashi and Ella Wiffen; many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wilson Daly; her second husband Roy Burley; her brothers, Tom Baylis and Frank Baylis; her sister, Dorothy (nee Baylis) Sacht; and her eldest daughter, Evelyn Ida (Lin) – (nee Daly and formerly Hacke) Elison.

Rose lived in Mission, B.C. in her younger years and after her marriage to Wilson Daly, raised her family in Youbou, B.C. and Victoria, B.C. where she also taught elementary school. She later married Roy Burley and moved to Coquitlam, B.C. where she continued teaching and was also the school librarian. Rose enjoyed quilting and travelling and later retired to 108 Mile House to the cabin that her and Roy built. Her last move was to Vernon, B.C. where she spent many years volunteering with various organizations.

In respecting Rose’s wishes, she was cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date. “Rest peacefully Grandma.”
