Rose Hawrishok passed away January 24, 2004 at Vernon. She was born August 16, 1912 at Marlin, Saskatchewan, the daughter of pioneer farmers Peter Philipow and Katie Philipow (nee Kukzycki). Dedicated to serving family and community, Rose worked as a caregiver and domestic before her marriage to John Hawrishok. In 1952 along with their 2 small children they settled in Vernon. She was active in United Church Women’s organizations, as a volunteer for Vernon Mental Health Thrift Shop, the Armstrong Family Drop In Centre, and in later years as an Old Age Pensioner and Schubert Centre member. Family and friends will remember Rose for her warm spirit and generous nature. She is predeceased by husband John, brothers Harry, John, Mike and Nick, nieces, Doris and Judy, granddaughter Laura, and daughter-in-law Joan Harris (nee Meneice). She is survived by brother Wilfred Collington (Phyllis), many much loved nieces, nephews and their children, Larson George Harris along with grandson Mitchell, her daughter Joan Faulkner, grandson Jaysen Nacci, granddaughter Jennifer Faulkner and great grandson Andri Faulkner. Friends and neighbours past and present are invited to join rose’s family in a celebration of her life on Saturday, January 31, 2004 at 2:30 P.M. in Columbus Court, 3003 Gateby Place, Vernon, B.C. special thanks are extended to Rose’s home support workers, the staff of Columbus Court, to Dr. Randy Fedorchuk, and the caring staff of Vernon Jubilee Hospital. Donations may be made in Rose’s memory to the Hospital Foundation or Hospice Society. Her cremated ashes will be placed at Armstrong/Spallumcheen Cemetery.
