Sept. 5, 1916 – Dec. 1, 2014
We regretfully announce the passing of Rose Relph NE Vataman. Rose was born in Lafleche Sask, the second of 12 children. She is survived by sisters Rustina + Ginny Vataman, Loriraine (Pat) Caruana, Brother Bill Vatamanuick, children Ellie Relph, Jean (Ray) Shirritt, and Ted, Grandchildren Cody Relph, Stephanie (Wes) McKay, Jeniffer (Rob) Phillips, Gordon and Cliff Relph, and Great Grandaughter Tristen McCrea.
Rose was predeceased by her husband Gordon in 1963, + son Clifford 1979.
Rose was not afraid of hard work. As a teenager she plowed and seeded 80 acres of flax by horse team, in order to finance her education. She earned her teaching degree in Sask and taught in remote towns. She met Gordon and was soon married. They purchased a farm in Coldstream 1960. After a logging accident took Gordon, Rose sold the logging equipment and built a new house. She went back to school and then taught kindergarten at Trinity United Church, and at Jana’s Daycare.
Rose was a member of the Coldstream Woman’s Institute, the Vernon District Riding Club, the I.O.D.E, the Shubert Singers, and the Merry Makers.
Sundays were always baking days on the farm. Visitors and family were always welcome and were offered hot tea, and treats. Rose also baked for charities and the community.
Mom passed away at home on the farm surrounded by family and friends. Special thanks to Cousins Hannah and Linda Rail, and Community Care Nurses whom helped with mom’s care.
A celebration of her life will be held in the Spring with notice.
