Mrs. Rose Schell, a long time resident of Vernon, passed away at her home in Orchard Valley Retirement Residence on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007 at the age of 90 years. Rose, the youngest child of Jacob and Fredricka (Meidinger) Buyer was born on August 25th, 1916 in Ashley, North Dakota. Her family came to Canada when Rose was a young girl and they settled at Carbon, Alberta. Rose married Gideon Schell in 1937 and they settled on the Schell family homestead where they remained, farming the land for several years. To this union were born two children, Ken and Sharon. In 1957 Gideon & Rose sold their farm and moved to Vernon where they purchased the Belmont Motel and together they operated the motel for many years. Rose will be lovingly remembered by her children, Ken (Marsha) Schell of Billings, Montana and Sharon Gaythorpe of Princeton, B.C.; four grandchildren, Jeremy (Erin), Angela, David (Tara) and Misty (Paul); nine great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Gideon in 1993; her son-in-law, Peter Gaythorpe; one sister, Elma Schell and three brothers, Andrew Buyer, Adam Buyer and Arthur Buyer. Rose will always be remembered as a woman who had a very gentle and happy nature. She was a wonderful hostess and her home was always open to family and friends where she enjoyed preparing and serving exceptional meals for them. Her deserts were “to die for”. Rose loved to join her friends in playing card games whenever possible and she cherished every moment spent with family and friends. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Cremation preceded a Celebration Of Rose’s Life which was held at the Schubert Centre on Saturday, July 7th, 2007 at 1:30 P.M. with Mr. Brian Jackson officiating. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Rose to the Schubert Centre, 3505-30th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 2E6.
