ROSEMARY JOHNSON

Rosemary Ellen Johnson

March 28th, 1920 – May 5th, 2013

With great sadness we announce the passing of Rosemary Ellen Johnson (nee Bazell) in the North Okanagan Hospice at the age of 93 years. She brought us joy in life with her endless love. Through her nearly 62 years of marriage to our Dad Wes, she delighted in entertaining family and friends. The biggest loss in her life was that of son John. Her biggest joy was husband Wes, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughters.

Knitting was a gift Mom was given. Whenever time permitted or when travelling with Dad, the needles would be clicking (sometimes with her eyes closed or she would be watching the scenery pass by). This led her to find a new knitting pattern for “Scotch Dolls”, which she made with accurate tartan detail. She donated many to the Vernon

Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary, where they were sold to raise money for the Cancer Centre.

Mom was the first Navy WREN to leave Vernon, and was in Hamilton waiting to be shipped overseas when the war ended. She worked as a switchboard operator at OK Tel, prior to leaving Vernon.

Mom was always willing to try something new. New places to travel, recipes to try, patterns to knit, plants for her lovely garden or craft project. At the age of 90 she received her first computer and went on line, where she could be found on Facebook or Googling for information, and staying connected with family and friends in Canada, England and Holland.

The cottage at Mabel Lake brought years of pleasure to our family. Fishing was a favorite pastime for she and Dad, as were the nightly campfires, singing and roasting marshmallows.

She and Dad danced beautifully together, and for many years would go out every weekend. One of the most memorable was at her grandson’s wedding.

She met friends at St. Hilda’s Guild, the Diet Club (where she was proud to “turtle”), or playing darts or crib at the Legion.

Left to mourn are husband Wes; daughters, Bernie, Marilyn (Blain) and Laurie; grandchildren, Christa (Mike), Rob and Myles (Katrina); and her “dolls” great-granddaughters, Calleigh and Katie. She was preceded in death by her son John in 1999; all her younger siblings, brothers Raymond and Ted; and by her sister Irene who died just 22 hours before Mom.

We love you Mom. God Bless.

Cremation preceded the Funeral Service which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Friday, May 10th, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. with The Reverend Rita Harrison officiating. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Rosemary to either the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation, designated for the Peter Baerg/Tom McMurtry Cancer Centre, 2101-32nd Street, Vernon, B.C.
