It is with great sadness that we announce that Roy Trickett passed away on January 9th, 2014 at Gateby Care Residence at the age of 89 after a long and brave battle with Alzheimer’s.
Roy was born to Herbert and Sarah Trickett in Portland, Oregon on December 11th, 1924 and came to Canada when he was one year old. He spent his early years in Webster’s Corner and Powell River before moving with his family to North Burnaby, B.C. where he completed his education.
Roy loved the sea and joined the Canadian Navy in 1942. He spent his war years as a Leading Torpedo Man on Corvettes doing convoy duty across the Atlantic. After the war, Roy manufactured band saws for many years in Vancouver and was then employed by Weyerhaeuser Saw Mill in Lumby where he spent twenty-five years as Head Filer.
Roy and his family lived for forty-three years in the home they built in Coldstream, B.C. before moving to Vernon. He retired at age 62 to spend his time doing the things he loved best: fishing, boating, camping, gardening, rock hunting, curling and golf.
Roy was predeceased by his parents and his brother Neil Trickett (Lilyan) of Delta, B.C. He will be sadly missed by Thelma, his loving wife of 64 years; his sons, Kevin (Lisa) and Stewart of Calgary, AB; his sister Shirley Lane (Carroll) of Medford, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Roy at Pleasant Valley Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16th, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. Tea will follow the service.
The special years will not return
When we were all together
But with the love within our hearts
You walk with us forever.
Special thanks from the family to the staff at Gateby for the care given to Roy during the last stage of his illness.
In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Alzheimer Society, #307, 1664 Richter Street, Kelowna, B.C. V1X 8N3 would be appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Pleasant Valley Funeral Home, Phone: 250 542 4333. Condolences may be offered at www.pleasantvalleyfh.com
